The academic-year-long Abreu Fellows Program at New England Conservatory provides tuition-free instruction and aneeds-based living stipend for ten outstanding postgraduate musicians and music educators, "passionate for their art and for social justice," who seek to guide the development of El Sistema programs in the U.S. Pending confirmation of funding, the third class of Abreu Fellows will begin their training at New England Conservatory in Boston on August 29, 2011. The first semester will include visits to El Sistema-inspired programs in the U.S. and a series of intensive workshops centered on the musical, educational and organizational components of launching an El Sistema-inspired program. The second semester will include a two-month period of applied study in Venezuela, followed by a three-week guided internship at an El Sistema-inspired program in the U.S. The Application Deadline is February 14, 2011.
