Dudamel to conduct the SBYOV in Europe and Canada

After his inaugural concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Venezuelan conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, reunites with his orchestra at prestigious venues such as the La Scala Opera House in Milan, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris.

The tour will take place from October 16 to 29 and includes performances in renowned venues of Europe and Toronto, Canada.

The repertoire, which was chosen to please a varied audience, includes the symphonic poem Francesca da Rimini, Violin Concerto in D major (accompanied by soloist Renaud Capuçon), and Symphony N° 4 in F major by Piotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss’ Alpine Symphony, Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, Hector Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique, Silvestre Revueltas’ Sensemayá, Antonio Estévez’s Mediodía en el Llano, and Evencio Castellanos’ Santa Cruz de Pacairigua.

The tour begins with performances at the Konzerthaus in Vienna that will take place on October 16 and 17. An educational concert and an open rehearsal by the SBYOV for a student audience will be held in the very same city. Milan is the next leg of the European tour. In this city, the orchestra will perform at La Scala Opera House on October 19, followed by the performances at the Salle Pleyel in Paris on October 23 and 24.

The Canadian tour begins with educational and community concerts by the orchestra's chamber ensembles in Toronto. In this city, El Sistema’s flagship orchestra will perform at the Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts on October 26, and the Rogers Centre. on October 29.

This tour is a new opportunity for the members of the orchestra to display their talents at prestigious venues of the world. These are the last concerts of the 2009 SBYOV international season, which began in April with performances in the United States, England, Spain and Portugal.
