The Simón Bolívar Big-Band Jazz is one of the Simón Bolívar Conservatory of Music’s youngest ensembles. It was established in 2007 after a period of training and rehearsal with James Seely (trumpet), James Richard Griffin (trombone), Andrés Briceño (drums), and Rolando Briceño (saxophone) at a seminar conducted by the Simón Bolívar Conservatory of Music and the FESNOJIV. The Simón Bolívar Big-Band Jazz was formed by the initiative of maestros Valdemar Rodríguez and Andrés Briceño to promote and disseminate jazz music genres. Andrés Briceño is the artistic and music director of this band made up of 40 trumpet, trombone, saxophone, bass, piano and percussion students at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory of Music.
The Simón Bolívar Big Band Jazz has made appearances at prestigious venues of Venezuela: the Alexander von Humboldt Theater of the Humboldt Cultural Association, the Bello Monte Acoustic Shell, the Salón Automotriz Siglo XXI Hall of the Museum of Transportation, the Corp Banca Cultural Center, the Opera Theater of Maracay, and the Jazz Festival of Barquisimeto; and soon will be performing abroad at three important jazz festivals in Bogotá, Panamá, and Puerto Rico.
