After 3 years of academic education as a conductor, the young man from Lara debuted before an international audience in San Juan, Puerto Rico, along the Simón Bolívar Orchestra for the Casals Festival on March 15, 2008. With over 16 years in the world of music, Diego Matheuz plans to continue in the National Youth and Children’s Orchestra System of Venezuela, passing his knowledge and experience on to the new generations along with what he can learn in the future.

He was born on August 9, 1984 at the Razetti Clinic of Barquisimeto, capital of Lara state. Seven years later he began his musical education in his native city, under his father’s care: "I started at a cuatro [4-string small guitar-like Venezuelan folkloric instrument] school near home -in Cabudare, where my dad registered me. He plays it too and always wanted me to learn. I attended and I liked it", Matheuz remembers.

After 3 years with this typical instrument, Diego went to the “Jacinto Lara” Conservatorium. He remembers and tells us that he took the admission exam and approved: "It was a very small house that later on fused with the ‘Vicente Emilio Sojo’ Conservatorium, and then became a much larger place, and I continued my studies there". And this is part of “El Sistema”.
