The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela (TCYOV), made up of 150 young musicians aged 14 to 20, was formed in 2007 by maestro José Antonio Abreu as the new bright young hope of the System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela.

The TCYOV represents the generation of Venezuelan musicians emerged between those of the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela and the National Children’s Orchestra of Venezuela.

Maestro Ulyses Ascanio has been its principal conductor since its formation. Internationally renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel and Eduardo Marturet have performed with the orchestra as guest conductors; and musicians of considerable stature –Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman and Mirella Freni, among others– have praised the orchestra.

In 2009 the TCYOV performed live via satellite from Caracas, under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, at the TED Prize Award Ceremony. That very same year the orchestra joined Plácido Domingo in a concert in Venezuela led by maestro Eugene Kohn.

By the end of 2010 the orchestra will embark on its first tour of Europe that includes performances in Bonn (at the Beethoven Festival), Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam, Madrid and London.
