Metropolitan Symphony Youth Chorus

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Chorus (MYSC), formed in January 30, 2006, is a high-standard choir made up of young people —with ages ranging from 16 to 30— from the Capital District.

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Chorus, likewise the other El Sistema's choirs, provides its students with a thorough training in singing and choral conducting, besides an education aimed at promoting their personal and social growth.

Metropolitan Symphony Youth Chorus

Since its formation, the MYSC has performed a wide variety of works, including universally known and Venezuelan madrigals, Anton Bruckner’s motets, Antonio María Valencia’s Requiem for a mixed a capella choir and many works by renaissance, classical and contemporary composers.

As part of the selection that makes up the Venezuelan Youth Symphony Chorus (group of singers chosen from all the El Sistema's regional choirs), the MYSC has performed works for orchestras and symphony choirs under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, Krzysztof Penderecki, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Nicolas Kraemer, Simon Rattle, Alfredo Rugeles, Felipe Izcaray, Inocente Carreño, Christian Vásquez, Vladimir Prado, Pablo Castellanos, Gérald Wirth and Roberto Tibirica. Among these works are:

  • Zadok The Priest, The King shall rejoice and Dixit Dominus by George Frideric Handel;
  • Mass in B minor by Johann Sebastian Bach;
  • Requiem, Mass in C, Regina Coeli and Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart;
  • Symphony No. 9 by Ludwig van Beethoven;
  • La Bohéme by Giacomo Puccini;
  • Carmen by Georges Bizet;
  • Symphonies No. 1 and No. 2 by Gustav Mahler;
  • The Planets by Gustav Holst;
  • Cantata Criolla by Antonio Estévez;
  • Requiem by Juan Bautista Plaza;
  • Requiem by Inocente Carreño;
  • Choros No. 10, Floresta do Amazonas and Mandú Carará by Heitor Villalobos;
