On April 23, at the Center for Social Action through Music, held a rehearsal with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela (SBSOV) and maestro Gustavo Dudamel for the concert at the Teresa Carreño Theater on April 25. During a press conference that took place after the rehearsal, Lang Lang said that he was impressed by the way the orchestra played the last passage of Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No. 1 —one of the works featured in the concert program— and added: “I just played with the greatest youth orchestra in the world and the best conductor of today, Gustavo Dudamel.”

President Hugo Chávez Frías always gave unconditional support to the Simón Bolívar Music Foundation. These pictures from internal and external press archives show the president at different moments in the institution’s recent history. He encouraged El Sistema’s young musicians to pursue their life’s mission and, on the ocassion of the launching of the Misión Música program in 2007, President Chávez had this to say to them: “Undoubtedly, all of you are marking a new dawn in the Venezuela’s history; a Venezuela filled with equality, freedom, glory, music, colors and happiness. May God bless you!”
