The Caracas Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO), sponsored by the Libertador Municipality of Caracas since 2010, is one of the most important orchestral-academic programs carried out by the Simón Bolívar Conservatory of Music. Made up of 170 musicians with ages ranging from 14 to 25, the CSYO plays with great artistry demanding works of the symphonic repertoire as well as chamber music, which is performed by its small ensembles. Venezuelan and Latin American works feature prominently in the orchestra’s repertoire The CSYO has performed under the baton of notable conductors, who have highly praised it. Christian Vásquez, Eduardo Marturet, Florian Ebersberg, Georg Mark, Gustavo Dudamel, Manuel López, Leafar Riobueno, Pablo Castellanos, Patrick Lang, Missa Johnouchi, Hideyo Takakuwa Isaac Karabtchevsky, and Sung Kwak are among them. Dietrich Paredes is its current principal conductor. Maestro Gustavo Dudamel has a strong bond with the CSYO since he served as its principal conductor. Every time he visits Venezuela he makes the time to perform with the CSYO. In 2010, during a concert that Dudamel and the orchestra gave in Caracas at the Center for Social Action through Music, the renowned conductor commented: "Ten years ago, maestro Abreu appointed me as principal conductor of this orchestra. Now there are many new faces and I'm impressed with the high level of these musicians." In June 2011, their appearances at the Bergen International Festival and the Music Academy in Oslo won them favorable reviews from the press. Upcoming engagements include a China-Korea Tour under the baton of Dietrich Paredes and Andrés Rivas. |
