Christian Vásquez who thanks to his technique, charisma, and presence is now considered to be one of the world's most promising musical talents, will soon embark on a new professional journey. The Venezuelan has been appointed as the Chief Conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (SSO). The appointment was made official on September 22 in Stavanger, Norway. Vásquez, who was educated in Venezuela at the world-renowned music education program El Sistema, will be taking over from Steven Sloane in the summer of 2013. He had this to say about his appointment: “I like this orchestra. I really feel at home here and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra gives me a good feeling. Everyone in Stavanger is so friendly and the orchestra is exceptional." SSO's director, Trude Marit Risnes, believes that this young, energetic and talented conductor is perfectly suited to Stavanger Symphony Orchestra's aspirations: “Christian Vásquez is a really exciting choice. This conductor generates enormous energy in his encounters with both players and audiences, creating sublime and magic moments. We want to be a pioneering orchestra: we are constantly striving to keep ourselves updated at every level. So it makes a lot of sense to choose a conductor who represents a rising generation”, she said. In turn, SSO's artistic director, Arne Almroth, adds: “We are delighted to be associated with one of the world's most promising young conductors, and we are looking forward to joining him on what promises to be an exciting artistic journey.” Vásquez will soon return to Venezuela to celebrate this new achievement with his fellow musicians from El Sistema, and will then go to Spain, South Africa, and Israel to meet his commitments with other orchestras. |
