Francisco de Miranda Youth Orchestra

Francisco de Miranda Youth OrchestraThe Francisco de Miranda Youth Orchestra (FMYO), along with the Núcleos of Guarenas and Guatire, is a means of cultural and social advancement for the state of Miranda, filling the region with professors and performers who have a positive impact on a numerous community which is learning more and more to appreciate and enjoy music of the highest level.

The FMYO is a wonderful school of social life. It is, by itself, a society nourished by the solidarity and harmony between the orchestra’s members, and wherein artistic merit, effort and dedication to study are rewarded.

The orchestra began its activities - as a string orchestra - in September 2001, under the baton of Prof. Andrés González. In January, 2002, the other sections were incorporated to form the current symphony orchestra.

The FMYO has played at the Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas; the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino in Santa Marta, Colombia; the Casa del Artista Theater in Caracas; the Latin American Workers University; the Emma Soler Theater; the Caracas Municipal Theater; the Municipal Assembly; the National Pantheon of Venezuela, the Paseo Los Próceres and the Embassy of Canada in Venezuela.

The orchestra has performed the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty Ballets in fully staged productions, and has appeared at Los Altos Mirandinos Festival under the baton of Simon Rattle and Claudio Abbado.

The members of the Francisco de Miranda Youth Orchestra also work as professors in El Sistema's Núcleos of Guarenas, Guatire, Caucagua, Higuerote, Río Chico, Santa Teresa, and Cúa.
