Sung Kwak conducts the SBYOV in the Mahler's Symphony No. 6 Thursday, February 19, 7:00 P.M.Sung Kwak Conductor Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela Korean maestro Sung Kwak conducts the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela in the Mahler's Symphony No. 6, considered as the most personal and heartfelt of the Austrian composer’s symphonies. The concert is organized by the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras, body attached to the Venezuelan Ministry of People’s Power for Participation and Social Protection. In June, 1997, he led the Busan Philharmonic in concerts in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York. He also led this orchestra in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. In October, 1995, he led the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela in a concert in celebration of UNESCO's fiftieth anniversary. In addition to his career as a conductor, Sung Kwak has been active in the training of young musicians. He is the director of the Conducting Master Course for Professional Conductors in Caracas, Venezuela, from 1992. He has been visiting professor at Mannes College of Music in New York, and the University of Texas in Austin. Currently, he serves as guest conductor of the KBS Symphony Orchestra.
